Rick,
I seem to remember you mentioning a MK2 of the LA150. What are the sonic changes? Any idea on the cost of upgrading from a LA-100 MK3?

Thanks

As an FYI, when I inquired with Jud about an upgrade of the LA-100 MkIII to LA-150 he indicated he was not doing those mods anymore due to reliability issues. In the end that was fine as when I finally compared my unit to an LA-150 I preferred my LA-100 MkIII. I'm kind of interested if anyone has heard differently.

No, it was a MkI version of the LA-150 with the Russian tubes. I found this version of the LA-150 to be much more neutral, but slightly more detailed as well versus the LA-100m MkIII. The LA-100 MkIII tends to be a bit more neutral than most tube preamps I have heard, but is definitely one of the most musical preamps I have heard as well. What it sacrifices in detail versus the LA-150 MkI, and it's not much, it makes up for in musicality. My understanding is Jud changed the circuit in the LA-150 MkII to replace the Russian tubes with 6350s, giving the unit a more musical sound and better extension. I'd love to hear one of these versions for comparative purposes.

are what motivated my initial question. I've since confirmed with Jud that he no longer does the upgrade. He claimed there are reliability problems. His last comment was that he would look into the possibility of the upgrade. So for the time being, I ordered a new tube set.
