Rich,

I have a Nova cdp and dozens of hybrid discs that have also cued up fine and played with no problems. Earlier this week I picked up a couple of the recent Living Stereo reissues (Mussorgsky and Chopin/Rubinstein). Both of these discs caused problems for the Nova. It could not read the TOC and displayed "07". If attempting to play a track directly by entering the track number it would display "A2".

I am curious as to whether you or anyone you know with the Nova has experienced this same problem? I have called/emailed Sim Audio yesterday, but have not yet gotten a reply.

thanks,
Thom Middlestadt

If the disc is a hybrid dual layer SACD/CD, the Nova's finer tolerances when it comes to alignment of the laser assembly means its less forgiving and some dual layer discs may not be able to be read by the player.

Some regular CDs are also being pressed these days not to the Red Book CD spec (so that PC CD-ROM drives have problems reading them)... most commerical CD players are designed with a wide latitude and can read these, but players like the Nova which are tweaks to get a better s/n off the CD to hep minimize jitter may have problems playing these non-spec "CD"s.

If I recall correctly, the numbers/letters the transport is giving you are error codes. I only havwe a few hybrid SACDs here (none of the Living Stereo ones though) and those have played the CD layer fine on our Simaudio and audio aero gear (both use philips transport mechs).

Let us know what the folks at Sim have to say.

Thanks for the suggestion Erik. I will try that although I have returned the LS discs for a refund. I will pick up the Chopin again tomorrow and see if this works.

I still have not heard back from Sim.
