JOC, why wasn't Abbey Road included in this box set? I realize that maybe the original master was not in mono, but some of the albums in the mono set (like Rubber Soul) had both mono and stereo mixes.

Thanks!

There were only dedicated mono mixes done through The White Album, posted on November 5, 2009 at 12:40:11

The mono versions of Yellow Submarine and Abbey Road that came out in some countries, as well as the mono Let It Be that came out on twin track tape, were "fold downs" of the completed stereo album. A fold down is created by taking the completed stereo mix and combining the channels to a single. Thus, rather than having a unique mix, it is really just an inferior copy.

You can get pretty much the same effect by using a "Y" cable.

They included the stereo mixes of Rubber Soul and Help! because the stereo set uses George Martin's 1987 remixes for those albums, instead of the original 60s UK mixes. Those are the versions included in the mono box.

Thanks! (n/t), posted on November 5, 2009 at 19:49:46
