The 2017 R&R HOF inductees have been announced. I always swore that I would never go there unless and until Yes was inducted. Now they will be. Should I bother?

Happy listening,

Jim

Wilburys aside, I have always thought of Jeff Lynne/ELO as a rock 'n' roll footnote.

No comment about Yes, one way or t'other. I thought they were cool when I was a teenager. Bill Bruford was (is?) a great drummer, though.
all the best,
mrh

I've always been a big fan, having seen them in the early 80's. By that time Lynne pretty much jettisoned the string section, and I think they became more of a generic rock band, perhaps with a little more harmonies. I thought this an unfortunate change of direction, and a departure from Lynne's stated mission for the band.

I don't have a problem with ELO being inducted, certainly not as much as I have with the non-rock acts the Hall has seen fit to enshrine in the last few years, but the Rock Hall, unlike a sports hall of fame, needs inductees every year to continue to gin up interest.

While ELO probably does not measure up to the Beatles, Stones, etc., neither does Craig Biggio measure up to Ty Cobb, but I do think Biggio deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I think if we judge every musical act in comparison with histories' best, it would be a small Hall of Fame.

...without Chris Squire who was the heart of the band IMO, there's no reason.

I don't really disagree, but for me it's all about Bruford.

Happy listening,

Jim

Tupac Shakur , who is also a nominee?

What IS the criteria for a R&R inductee?

Must be the 30-40 somethings
in the group of voters who also thinks Beyoncé should also be a nominee.

Well, most of us acknowledge the R&R HOF as a joke anyway.

My prediction Tupac will get the nod, just to prevent rioting in the inner cities.
