Johnny Jenkins does a Dr. John classic with Duane Allman on slide.

Life's a mean 'ole dog. He was too cool to be gone so quickly.

I have one great photo of Duane diddling with his Gibson Sunburst through a brownface Princeton, during the Layla Sessions. Will need to scan it.

Early years with Marshall, Fender, Kustom cab setup:

I read somewhere long ago and far away that he initially preferred
those little cream pitchers that were in every diner in the country;
he was bemoaning that they were fast disappearing and becoming very
difficult to find, ever for such diner mavens such as the band. Don't
use a finger slide myself, rather a steel Stevens bar. Glass is too
slippery for me. Still waiting for a Weissenborn to fall from the sky,

I use a cut copper pipe (" green " --- hospital grade) and my Telecaster. Never could get the hang of metal fingerpicks. You use them?

An interesting site (one of many) of his setups and guitars.

I really don't like them, way too noisy for one thing. I do use a hard
plastic flatpick for single string lead on Fender lap steel or Dobro, but
usually I rely upon my battered old fingernails and my battered old Kay
f-hole with a guitar nut. Regards,

J.R.
