with Uncle Tupelo I said that he would be the Neil Young of the 21 st century....In my mind I was right....to American taste in music (pop shit), I missed....Glad you appreciate the cat, he is massively talented.

but in the overall scheme of the music biz, he is underrated - the talents of he and tweedy have already produced admirable catalogs, with much more to come - count me as a big fan

Unknown? Given his Uncle Tupelo and Son Volt fame, I'd say he's very well known. -nt, posted on May 22, 2012 at 09:32:06

....or well known to the general public? Ask 10 people on the street who he is. That should be your acid test.

Unfortunately nine of those ten people on the street don't have a clue.

You could easily ask who James Morrison, Peter Townsend, or Richard Starkey is, and they'd all look at you with that 1000 yard stare and say "Da, I dunna know."

But on the bright side, those same people will be voting for our next president. (Assuming of course they can figure out how to work the pen.)

...who the Vice President of the US is and they don't know.

Ask 10 people involved in popular music today and they will know either him or one of his bands.

Particularly if you ask musicians.

Little Feat did a whale of a job with it, too...

He's drugstore truck drivin' man
He's the head of the Ku Klux Klan

"Well Known" is a relative term and means nothing without a qualifier. It is usually referring to the "general public". If one intends for it to mean "well known to professional musicians", he should probably preface it that way.

and I did not know LF covered it....

Exactly! For his talent, he should be known throughout the music fan world, not just to fans of alt music. nt, posted on May 23, 2012 at 08:20:10
