Hello!

So, I made some bass traps out of 705 FRK. The FRK faces the room (these are in the corners behind the speakers). I used blue burlap to cover the traps, and I painted the frames blue because I was concerned with the transperancy of the burlap.

Now... I can see the foil behind the burlap if the light hits it just right. Was kind of hoping that wouldn't be the case.

Question - can I paint the foil paper on the 705 FRK with one coat of latex paint? I have two more to make that will have the foil facing out, and I'd like to reduce the effect of the foil reflecting back light... but I don't want to cause poor functionality of the traps.

Thanks in advance!

Please define FRK? I'm not familiar with it. Thanks, posted on August 25, 2009 at 05:20:54

Yes, paint on top of FRK is fine.

Just an update - finished two more traps this weekend - one along the floor/front wall and the other for the ceiling/front wall. The latex paint coverd the FRK very quickly. One coat! This made the burlap cover look much better.

Probably a two-person job, but nobody was around at the time. Once I got it close, I replaced the lifting straps with heavy-duty nylon zip ties. Each mount really only sees about 15 lbs.

Okay, so the floor and ceiling traps are in place, complementing the corner traps on the sides. Starting to get some very good sound from this small(ish) 11 x 17 room!
