I am building a listening room -- a rectangular studwalled room, sheathed inside and out, within a metal building. My current question, relates to the height of the ceiling, and the shape to use. The studwalls are up and sheathed on the outside, current height is 97". The room is 13'10" X 20" inside dimension, and the there is room for a 10' ceiling with higher peaks in some parts. I have downloaded ModeCalc and played with dimensions. With an 8.5 foot flat ceiling, I'm a little short on volume. I have been looking to avoid modes from multiple dimensions occuring at the same frequencies, and I figure it's best to avoid 60hz, and particularly 120hz just to not make AC hum stand out. If I increase the ceiling height, the volume improves, of course, but the modes related to the height creep down toward 60hz and multiples. What are some suggestions as to how I might best balance these tradeoffs? Thanks for your thoughts, Skip Pack |
