Pictures are definitely helpful, but so are details of the room such as dimensions and details about features that aren't evident from the pictures such as info about furnishing materials (weight/thickness of curtains and carpets, materials used, whether chairs and sofas use foam or springs, etc), plus details of any existing acoustic treatments. Also comments about what you can do or not do in the room—always an issue with living rooms where partners have a say in what is permitted and what can be moved or removed.

There's always someone who'll try to help but whether or not their ideas will fit with what you want to achieve or are prepared to live with in your room is another matter :-)
