 I posted in the General thread and a suggestion was made that I try here.

Basically I want to equalize the volume on an mp3 that has segments of high volume and segments of low volume without having to do it segment by segment. I'm hoping there is a Select All/Adjust Volume Equally method.

Suggestions please.

 I tried it with "dBpoweramp DSP Effects" and found it had a negative sonic effect... I do not use "ReplayGain" for the same reasons...

If you only use your system for background music while you work around the house it may be OK for you...

 ...he's trying to normalize the volume level of a telephone recording where each party is at a significantly different volume level. I doubt that he is concerned with "high fidelity" in this case.

I have mp3 files of two party phone conversations that are made using a phone inline recorder. The files are recorded on a SD Card and I then copy them to my computer. The outgoing volume is much louder than the incoming volume. There is no way to control the volume separately.

I would like to balance/equalize the volume. I have Audacity installed but I really don't know how to use it or if it can be used to do what I want. I have very little experience editing audio so I'm looking for an easy way to equalize(?) the volume. Suggestions please.

Images are of the same mp3 file, the top is with Audacity, the bottom is with mp3DirectCut.
