XRCD version.
Hadn't listened to it in ages.
Great.
Really Great.
Sonny has an off-the -cuff style that is truly amazing!

Every single Rollins recording pre 1980's (and some later) is a gem, including that one. nt , posted on January 10, 2017 at 10:41:46

Love it....I was just thinking yesterday that Freedom Suite may be on my desert island list.

The Sound of Sonny always makes me laugh.
With Amazement and Delight!
He was very young on that one.

Yep, that's a killer album. "On Impulse" and "East Broadway Rundown" are also fantastic. nt, posted on January 11, 2017 at 08:42:10

This is a five cd set of Sonny's complete Riverside and Contemporary recordings from 1956-1958.The albums are
Monk " Brilliant Corners "
Sonny "Way Out West"
Kenny Dorham " Jazz Contrasts "
Sonny " The Sound of Sonny"
Abbey Lincoln " That's Him"
Sonny " Sonny Rollins Plays ,Freedom Suite and Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Masters".
This is a priceless collection that I have in Riverside box set with excellent notes but unfortunately not the original liner notes.
I've owned this for over 15 years and you can still find this on Amazon but I'm not certain you can still get this issue.

"Way Out West", with all of the outtakes is probably my favourite Sonny Rollins.

Next would probably be "Saxophone Colossus" (Moritat) and "The Bridge".

Incredible jazzman! One of my very favourites.

was my entry point in the late '50s.

Never heard him play better.
