genungo	I doubt that most people would want to listen to truly depressing music at all, or at least not very often. A few people might find ego reinforcement within truly depressing things but those are the people and things that most of us try to stay away from.

There's a certain nobility in the suffering expressed at the end of the Path�tique Symphony IMHO.

OTOH, I always remember the article in Stereo Review (back in the 60's I think), the "Guide to Party Conversation about Classical Music", which had ready-made phrases you could say - even if you didn't know anything about the subject. For Tchaikovsky, it was: "Tchaikovsky? Ah yes - such marvelous self pity!". ;-)

And yet, it's not just hopelessness and despair: there's a beauty to it that attracts repeated listenings (if you can take it emotionally).
