Anyone see the Met Turandot HD theatercast earlier today?

What an emotionally wrenching experience - Zefirelli's production should be awarded some sort of prize as an international treasure! And as further evidence that the Russians are coming (actually, they're already here), the two principals in the women's roles, Maria Guleghina and Marina Poplavskaya, were outstanding - gone are the days of having to endure Eva Marton's (and her successors') wobbling in the title role. And Poplovskaya was just terrific as Liu - talk about floating your high notes - what great control of dynamics and vocal tone in the service of a believable dramatic portrayal!

The theater I saw it in had problems with audio drop outs, especially in the first act. Was this just a local problem or was it a transmission problem to all the theaters? This was the first time I had encountered this kind of problem in the Met's HD theatercasts.

I can't wait for this to come out on Blu-Ray.

A really fantastic production. Having been in a Turandot a long time ago (San Antonio/Nilsson/Tucker) and my wife being a theater director and trained the Turandot children for Houston, we speak as veterans. Zeffirelli is a true genius of the theater. I recommend this Met production to all with the slightest interest in opera. It will take you OUT.

I was not as enthusiastic about Guleghina but Liu was world class and Giordani had the high notes when he needed them.

A feast for the eye and ear.

The transmission problems were worldwide I believe. During the first intermission, an audience member behind me called a friend in Chicago and they were having the same problems we were having in Victoria, Texas.

Probably that wascally ol' sun.

At the "Tosca" several weeks ago, they also trotted out the sun defense. It's, posted on November 8, 2009 at 10:26:11

highly unlikely that the same time, same day would coincide. I think they need some technical assistance. Is your wife a tecchie, too? :-)

Don't remember problems with Tosca except the dull stage production which any director with an ounce of imagination could have fixed.

I haven't actually read about the cause of the glitches yesterday. I just assumed.

watch the Ducks play football.
Both of us lost..............
Very lucky you.
"Tosca" had an evening return date here a week or so after the Saturday one. I hope "Turandot" does, too.
