I've just been browsing a few Randy Crawford recordings on YouTube and came across this which for me is an absolute delight.

In a world of Mariah Carey wannabees where the 'why sing one note when five will do' style has taken over, Randy's understated elegance comes as a relief, and here the piano accompaniment is again, understated but just about....perfect.

Now I know this was recorded at Abbey Road, but I don't know if it can be found on the shiny disc or not.

Anybody?

he has refined his playing of it and she hasnt seemed to have lost her verve for the song. i always liked it and it came from an era when there was 'jazz thats smooth' rather than today's smoov jazz. you know, bob james, larry carlton, lee ritenhour, dave sanborn playing the same crap over and over.

it was spawned by the producers who kept saying 'make another one JUST LIKW that one, over and over again. dave sanborn even said it in public. you wanna hear JAZZ by sanborn? get the album 'another hand'. its always cheeeeep because it doesnt sound like dave sanborn (again).

the crusaders fell into that a bit too. why dont they do another one as good as (and not the same as) 'scratch'? most of the above mentioned artists have examples of great playing when they were innovating.

...regards...tr

I noticed this and it'll be worth getting, but no 'Street Life' in the track listings.

I'm not sure if you know that they released this song with Randy Crawford singing with the Crusaders (Joe Sample was a Crusdaer). It is a little different though but not too much. On the album the song is about 11 minutes.

Thanks for the link, but that's the popular version which was released as a single and I've known and loved it for years.

I've since found out that the version I linked to is from the excellent series 'Live from Abbey Road' so hopefully there is a chance the series will appear on CD at some point, or DVD.
