Whose got em (I KNOW hifitommy got some)? I listened to Charlie Byrd and Laurindo Almeida this morning back to back. I don't know of ANY recordings possessin the sheer dynamic weight and tone of these but I'm sure lookin for some recommendations! Thanks.

Yes, I've got the Almeida with some obscure work by a Brazilian and, posted on November 8, 2009 at 09:49:36

some Beatles cover. The sound is really amazing and the music, well... charming?

yeah, i bought 'em back when they were new. with all my bitching about the new 45rpm releases, DTD is a good reason to go 45. i LOVE my DTDs from the sheffield era. those were halcyon days.

road father from woody herman is another of the greats from those times. find it, buy it.

To be able to change speeds on my Nottingham TT I have to relocate my belt around the pulley and the platter. As this is a hassle I tend to drag out all my 45rpm albums and listen consecutively. In addition to my Crystal Clear's, I've been listening to some Mark Levinson's and Reference Recording's. MLAR Volume One, the one 33 1/3rpm of the day, is a live organ recital on side one and a choral recital on side two. Having discovered that my VTA was off a smidge and corrected for it, side 2 of this disc is flat out heavenly. Maybe the least hifi-ish recording in my collection. Totally stressless and liquid. That last track, with organ, O Sactum Convivium (Morales), is to die for. If any of you gents have this I suggest that you re-visit it. Hopefully, your VTA is right.

All of these albums, those of them that I own at any rate, are the antithesis of digital and landmark recordings of any time. The very wide dynamics on Old Hymn from the CC Charlie Byrd album are distortion free at any level I can stand. The instruments, that is. Bon appetit (and keep those recs coming, thanks).

I have the original Concord 33 1/3 pressing (silver cover). And it is superb. It just doesn't get any better.
