Picked up By Request: The Best Of John Williams And The Boston Pops Orchestra CD yesterday for dirt cheap. Just ripped it and listened to the first track 'The Cowboys Overture'. Wow, I'm VERY surprised by the sonics and performance. Why am I surprised? Hell, I don't know, maybe I shouldn't be. Anyway, sounds VERY good on my stereo.

A friend brought this over to hear on my system. Really good sonics.

But not something I would consider listening to again. Movie and TV themes aren't my cup of tea.

LMAO! Yes, not my 'cup a tea' either. Now, I'm into soundtracks, especially, Thomas Newman stuff, but definitely, NOT western themes. lol However, I really seem to dig 'The Cowboys Overture'. I guess that's why I said in my first post that "I was surprised". I also remember really liking the movie. Anyway, the sonics on this CD are superb. One last thing: Growing up I considered 'The Boston Pops' as a rather 'dorky', generic version of a symphony orchestra. This opinion was obviously erroneous considering the performance on this CD. :O

Boston Pops = the Boston Symphony Orchestra, for the most part, at any rate.

Yes, the Boston Pops and the Boston Symphony are the same orchestra. The principals in the Boston Symphony do not usually play in the Pops, but essentially it is the same ensemble. And since the Pops is separate pay, that is the main reason why the BSO is the highest paid orchestra in the country.

And I used to read they got so they hated playing John Williams' music. Who can blame them? Most of is is so terribly vapid.
