what is the difference between 1.7 and 1.7i?

The answer is the meaning of life. Which is to say no one knows for sure. This is true of the 3.7/3.7i. All Magnepan will say is that the i models sound better. As best I can tell the crossovers and drivers are the same so I suspect it has something to do with the tensioning of the mylar or some other subtle physical alteration in the construction.

There is at least some physical alteration; the fasteners along the edges/stiles are larger on the 3.7i vs. the 3.7 or previous.

The difference is about $200, but it depends upon choice of fabric and trim.

IIRC one 1.7 model was priced at $2149, the 1.7i is $2200.
