I am now thinking of buying one of these players and would like to know any opinions as far as those who have one of these CD players in their 1.6 system? The 740C is ~ $400 cheaper and looks very similar.

Not exactly the same setup, but I've been using the 840C with MMG's. Have no experience with the 740C but I would imagine that they're similar. I find the Cambridge a bit less fatiguing on RBCD than my Sony 555ES. Have had good results running through a tubed linestage with either tube or SS amps.

I have an 840c w/ 1.6s and think it's grand.
The 840 doesn't appear to have much in common with the 740.
The 840 uses Anagram Technology chipset of Swiss origin. Doesn't the 740 use the Wolfson chipset?
The 2 pair of inputs, a coax/toslink combo provide several interesting possibilities.
My plans include optical from an Apple Airport Express so I can use my Mac as a lossless music server and the other input will be assigned to my OPPO DVD player in an effort to improve movie soundtrack performance.

I also make use of the balanced outputs using Mogami cable, a Guitar Center find.!!

I am just beginning to look into using the digital inputs on the 840C. I'm also looking to stream/play files off of my Mac. I'll have to look into the Apple Airport Express.

Look into the Iphone / Ipod Touch application called 'remote'.
My 'touch controls i tunes from anywhere in the house. I DO NOT have a wireless router, but when I turn on the confusers AirPort, I can connect with the 'pod! =free app, too.
