Hello
Just before I buy on of these amps, and since I have no option to buy both...does anybody has experiece on sonic benefits by using either an Adcom 535 or a Citation 12 power amp with a pair of MG-Ib speakers ??
The preamp would a tube Fisher 400-CX.
Thank you
George

I've used the Adcom 535 (not the mark II) with a pair of SMGas and it was a match made in heaven.

Just my 2 cents...

I also used he original 535 amp with a pair of SMGa's back in the day. In fact I still have the amp, and its matching tuner/preamp in a second system in my house. Very robust, and neither unit is showing its age. However after close to 25 years, I wonder how close to spec it remains and how many years it might still have left.

It seemed to mate well with the SMGa's in my old townhouse, where I couldn't turn up the volume too loud anyway. It did not have the ability to drive my 1.6's to anything more than very moderate levels in my mid/large sized room of my new house. I'm not sure how efficient the MG1b's were relative to the SMGa's and the 1.6's, but I would guess that at around 50 wpc, even with generous dynamic overhead, the 535 is a bit underpowered.

Maggies, because you can never be too thin!

if you are considering something as old as the Cit 12, I'd plan some $$ for restoration costs into the budget. There have been a number of mods published for the amp over the years, too.

I have less experience with the Adcom so would not be in a position to draw an opinion there.

Cheers,

David
