Hey, has any used the sunfire 300 amp with maggies? Im upgrading from the Adcom GFA-555. Do you think there is a night and day or noticible difference. Will be picking it up thursday :-)

the adcom puts out 325watts at 4ohms vs sunfire 300 600 watts at 4ohms

I'm using a similar amplifier on my 2.6's. Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature, series II. That runs 425/850 watts into 8 & 4 ohms respectively and can take impedance dips down to 2 ohms. This will likely be the last solid state amp I'll ever buy. Has a nice characteristic of a very low noise floor that the music emerges out of. If that makes sense.

I had a brief correspondence with Bob Carver, in which he commented that Sunfire amplifiers were designed with with ribbons in mind. They were built to power speakers like the Carver Amazing's and Sunfire's ribbon drivers. He also said that he used Magnepan's in the speaker rotation to proof the Sunfire's. I have no reason to doubt him. The tracking down-converter power supply that they use are a pretty impressive achievement.

In search of musical bliss...

I think that it's the perfect amp for Maggies. I've used mine on smg a s.Tympanies(1D and IVa), IIIa s,3.3s,3.5s,1.6s and 3.6s. It provides a bit of tube sound for a great deal less $ than a pair of 300 watt tube mono blocks and it shouldn't clip. I had a friend who was blaming his 3.6 s because he was always blowing ribbons with a Bryston (the 250 wpc model). He switched to a Sunfire and hasn't blown a tweeter since.
cheers, Bob
