Thinking of making a few diy cables.
For starters I'll make a few from plain copper,1mm, 2mm and 4mm.

Also found a 'silver' cable.

45 euro's for 10 meters.
What do you think, worth a try or sounds like bull to me?

For that money I can find fairly decent second-hand brand cables.

This wire is made primarily for the military and aerospace industries, as it allows Teflon insulation to be applied without corroding the copper. It has high conductivity for RF, so it supports RF resonances in cables made from it, and transmits RF noise very well. Because of this property, it has a reputation for sounding bright.

There are some cables made from it with measures to ameliorate this problem. Skywire cables are one brand. Otherwise, be prepared to apply your own fixes.

I have some teflon-coated Cu wire (ie. no silver coating). I know it really is teflon because the insulation doesn't "shrink away" from the end when I'm soldering (whereas other, so-called, teflon-insulated wire does).

So, yes, military standards might require "silvered" Cu wire but it seems that us audiophiles can get teflon-coated "normal Cu" wire?

IE. Someone has been able to fix the (previous) problem associated with coating Cu wire with teflon?

Regards,

Andy

Yes, there is non-silver-plated, Teflon-insulated copper wire., posted on November 6, 2009 at 10:47:10

It is not as common or easily available as the military surplus wire, at least in the USA. Michael Percy sells some.

Plenum-grade CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable typically has four pairs of 24-gauge wires, and three of the four are Teflon-insulated.

I use this in projects and note the discoloration of the copper when the insulation is stripped.

Thanks for the reply Al Sekela.
Think I'm gonna try these 'silver' cables.
After all they don't cost much.
