I will be sending my Velodyne ULD-15 "stand alone" amp/controler/crossover to Velodyne for checkup, repair and upgrading.
I was asked if I wanted the crossover frequency lowered?

The default setting is, Hi and Low pass 85 Hz, 12dB per octive.
There are many posts about this subject in the Planar Archives, each it seems more complex than the previous one.

The ULD allows for quick, easy bi-amping, the 400 watt amp powers the 15" woofer, the signal above 85Hz is sent to my ARC monoblocks that power the 3.6 Maggies. This frees up the panels from doing low bass with the benefits of bi-amping. Without getting mired in techno-talk that I probobly won`t compleatly understand, would dropping down from 85 Hz be better for the 3.6`s performance?
Thanks for any and all info, Len W

38Hz ... running 3.6R's full range and using a REL Storm set at 38Hz.

I set up my subs with a 40Hz crossover point for stereo and 80Hz for HT.

The 3.6s have great very natural planar bass so my preference is 45-50 Hz. I'm using 48 Hz @ 18dB. Others like steeper slopes perhaps. I generally try to use shallower slopes wherever possible due to phase response issues. Deep bass is also affected by room modes more than higher up so play with it.

I use a 35hz low-pass with my Maggies, but it seems like most people are good with 45-50hz.

I prefer to cross my MMG's over at 50-60hz, the 3.6's have a much better low end response. I'd shoot for a 45-50 hz crossover, just to ease up on the amps driving the 3.6's while filling in the bottom end.

I also used a ULD-15 until the servo section blewed up. Now I mainly use it for movies only. Interesting that Velodyne will repair that model, as I was told (by them) they no longer service or even offer replacement parts for the old ULD models.
I never did use my pre-amp through the Velodyne xover as I found the sound suffered. I preferred to run the Maggie's full range and let the sub fill in the bottom end only, using a 38Hz or so (can't recall the exact number) xover point. It was as simple as soldering in one resistor as I did not use the full xover section (otherwise another 4 resistors I think). There are advantages both ways, I just found with the Velodyne that to my ears this was best.
Regardless, if you want to use the xover fully I'd stay much lower, unless you use two subs, to prevent sourcing the sub. I'd say mid 40's at the most IMO.
What you're doing is not really what most are speaking of when bi-amping however. Bi-amping generally concerns splitting the tweeter/mid section from the bass section of the panels.
