In the last few years, at Ribfest, collectible LPs have gone on wlakabouts.

I shrugged my shoulders and figured that if he or she needed them that badly as to steal from a friend who'd welcomed them into his home, then it was part of the cost of having a great party.

This year, and we continue looking around in the hopes I'm wrong, a piece of our flatwear, a ladle, disappeared at Ribfest 2012. An ice cream scoop also disappeared.

I'd imagine some more LPs have done so, too.

But the audacity, and as I say we continue looking, hoping I'm wrong, of liberating 2 rather expensive cartridges, a Dynavector 20xl and an Audio Note IQ2 have "walked off."

Because of this, 2012 will be the last Ribfest. If the person or persons who took things from this house return them, no questions will be asked and I will continue having what has become an awesome get-together.

If the person who took these things is reading this doesn't give a rat's ass for all of the others who have come and contributed to a great party, then I hope they enjoy the fruits...I can't imagine that sooner or later those fruits will begin to taste rotten.

Again, if the cartridges and other things are returned...send them to your friends in another state, send them to your folks so that you remain anonymous. If you simply return them I will forget what you've done.

I have to get an operation in early October. My heart and kidneys are badly damaged and none of my doctors are too happy that I have to take the chance I will by getting this operation, but a hernia can't be ignored.

I hope that I end up blaming this on the meds I take, embarrassing but far better than to think a friend would do this to me and to all of the other people who come to Ribfest.

My heart works at 30%, my kidneys a bit above 20%, you can imagine why my doctors are worried...as am I, as is my family, as are my friends. I've hinted at how ill I am but I believe this is the first time I allowed myself to reveal the realities to you folks.

The people I've spent time with at AA and Ribfest have come to mean a lot not only to me, but my wife, too.

I hope we'll continue having Ribfests.

It's rather maudlin, but I would hope the person(s) who took these things reflect upon those facts.

Best scenario would be for me to find these things in a box somewhere and if that happens I will be appalled that I made these accusations. But I've looked for weeks and have not found them, so I feel pretty sure that I waited long enough to reveal this to the other people who came to Ribfest.

... The very best of luck to you in early October and all of us here send you super duper positive vibes for total success with the Op.

Hopefully the cartridges will turn up regardless if by fair means or foul.

If per chance the cartridges fail to materialise please email me, just because ok?

Hang in there mate.

Its my fault as far as flatwear its easy for it to get binned by accident. You haven't notice any missing LPs so probably not taken. And I too am missing 2 quality cartridges I cant find them anywhere. Lost in my pile of goods. And I have no one to blame except myself. Darn things are so small.

Do you "lose" flatware, or LPs, or cartridges, every time you invite people into your home? I think (and Mike, correct me if I'm wrong here) that Mike has been looking for some "gone missing" LPs for years now....

Hi. Mike:

When I read your post, I was shocked to hear that someone would steal from a Gentelman like you. Sad, very sad.

More importantly, I hope all goes well for you in October. Maybe you will get that cute nurse you had last time!!! Keep your chin up, Mike.

Best wishes.....old guy

Heck one could steal 50 of my LPs and I wont notice. And every party I have ever had I ended up with less silverware. Just seems silly to me to consider things stolen when ones not really sure. And if they are I sure wouldn't host party's where I didn't know the guests. And its true I'm missing 2 cartridges I looked many times cant find the wee bastards.

It is sad indeed that such things happen. For someone to take advantage of another's goodness is indicative of a very low character. I've had the same thing happen when I have "friends" over for a reloading party to make some practice ammo. So...... no more parties.

Hopefully, the individuals who "borrowed" your stuff will return it. I admire the calm and non-abrasive manner in which you are handling this problem.

like everyone, I hope those items turn up. Shocking, really, that something like that would happen. As for your health, well, here's to your health! Just lay back and let 'em fix you up then on to a quick recovery. I wish I could make a ribfest sometime and actually meet you guys. The idea of packing my dad along tho.... that doesn't sound so optimal. So have a great fest, and get better. Sad state of things on your missing stuff, for sure. Got you in my thoughts, bud.

I can imagine the heart sickness you may be feeling to think that someone you've invited into your home would repay your generosity by stealing anything. Don't know if any doctor is good enough to repair a broken heart. (Maybe if she had nice legs?...)

On the other side of the coin (if what you fear is true), then the guilty party must be pretty cold-hearted to pull a stunt like that. Again, I don't know what can be done to correct that condition.

I hope the missing items turn up. Most of my "missing" items usually show up in the least expected places, but I know it was me who put it there for some reason in the first place. I know you have had concerns about holding Ribfest in the past for health and other issues, but I'd hate to miss out on future fests for a reason like this.

Best wishes to you and Barb for you next contribution to the new Peshkin Wing of the Chambersburg Hospital. I'm sure everyone one here will be sending prayers and good vibes your way. I know I will.

I do hope things go well for you, especially in regards to your health.

As for folks who steal, in your case (if true) and in general-we all are given the opportunity to make choices & those that make the conscious & deliberate one of theft show the all too real side of humanity that preys on others.

Well, with that said, I think you are making the only choice you can, as I recall from the 2nd or 3rd Ribfest you had a stylus force gauge stolen.

I'm so sorry to hear about your health. I must admit I'm surprised a surgeon would agree to do it with your heart and kidneys in such poor condition. May your decision be the correct one. My thoughts and best wishes are with you.

I have an ironclad alibi. I've never been to Ribfest. :-)

I am very sad to read about the missing items and can understand your frustration. Please be aware that many of us send our thoughts and prayers for a safe surgery and recovery.

Hi MuzikMike,

I'm so sorry to read about your health problems, and hope that you can get things turned around for the better.

Also, regarding the probably stolen items, know that whomever took them will suffer continually mentally as a result. When a person does a bad thing, it never goes away - it's always there in the mind, and is a negative thought they'll always live with, even if they're generally a bad person. See what I'm sayin'? Karma.

On the other hand, the ladle and scoop may have easily gone home with someone unintentionally - that's the nature of parties when people bring stuff... sorting out all the dishes and wares afterward sometimes doesn't go as well as we'd like. Whoever has the ice cream scoop might not even know who it actually belongs to, and they'll just enjoy it and remember what a great time they had at your party! Karma again. :)

Best regards to you!

Terrible to think a guest would do such a thing.

I frequently lose flatwear, however, but not so much cartridges and LP's!

When I first started reading your post, and you listed some utensils gone missing, my first inclination was to tell you to look in the garbage, as I've had people, (stupid people admittedly), throw away utensils when at my parties.

However, when you mentioned that not only LPs had gone missing, but cartridges as well, that is a whole different kettle of fish. It is too bad that you will have to cancel future Ribfests because of one or two complete thieving idiots! Rather than cancel it, perhaps it makes sense to just issue invitations to a select few.

You have my condolences and I wish you the best of luck in the future!

...that all goes well with your surgery and your health returns.

As someone said in a thread earlier today, there are days that I prefer the company of my dogs much more than people. The possiblity that someone stole your belongings reinforces such thoughts of mine.

I only made it to one Ribfest a few years ago, but I'll never forget your hospitality. You made a fellow inmate feel very welcome, as did your wife and family. So sorry to hear someone took advantage of that generosity -- maybe more than one someones.

More importantly, please know that lots of us have you in our thoughts and prayers as you struggle with your health issues. I'm pretty much an agnostic of undetermined faith (raised Christian, married into Judaism), but I do believe others' concentrated goodwill and positive energy have some salutory effect. My grandfather, a radiologist and pathologist, was also convinced of it based on his observations of thousands of patients.

Take care and be well. And to the thief (thieves) who scammed you, well, they'll just have to live with the knowledge that they are lousy human beings.

I don't believe in any of the things most do except for the human spirit that makes us keep on doin' and, Mike and Barb, you've got it, in Spades.

I also know and appreciate how tenacious you are about looking for things missing no matter how long it takes so it would appear that at least one, como se dice?, Cocksucker, made it your shindig; said person probably didn't pay for lunch, either.

I hope that locking up the silver and making sure everyone pays (move it off site?) will enable you to keep on doing for many years.

I'm shocked that anyone would have the nerve to take advantage of Muzikmike whose generousity and good spirit have been a backbone of this community. It's sad but it is a reality that there exists such ill individuals who are unable to see the treasures that Barb and Muzikmike offer in their friendship, knoweledge and love of all things muzik.
What a sad soul to steal when so much was given.

I pray for increased good health for Muzikmike and those members of our community that are so troubled.

We've never met and I've never had the pleasure of attending a Ribfest, but I am astounded that anyone would sink so low as to take your property.

The good news is, these objects, and all other objects, are trivial compared to family, friends, fun, and good health. So I hope you keep as much of all of those as you possibly can for a very long time.

Until now I believed that the folks who inhabited AA (and in particular the ones who went to Ribfest)were a cut above the average bear.

I'm completely disillusioned by this turn of events and hope that Karma will catch up to the malandrin who perpetrated such badness. For our sake, I hope you find the carts so I can stop feeling like the little boy who found out there's no Santa Claus.

As for your planned surgery, someone better warn the nurses cause as soon as the surgeon's done, your putz will be good as new!

Mike,

Like others here I want to let you know that I'm a big believer in positive energy and you've earned a ton of that with your posts and generosity. It's unlikely that the culprits have the capacity to feel remorse or they wouldn't have acted the way they did in the first place..but hey, you never know. Just know that we're all pulling for you to have a successful health intervention, so you can continue to enrich our lives in the way you do. It's unlikely that I'll ever make a Ribfest should they occur again, but I've always looked on with envy at the fellowship you've fostered, so feel very good about that and maybe it'll help take the sting out of the material loss.

attracts all sorts to its flame. I am sorry to hear of this. You probably know that some of us here are itching to send you replacements or raise funds to help but we know that would miss the point of it all. Folk have done the same to me so I know how it feels.

I have never (and am unlikely to) made it to the Ribfest but I enjoyed reading about it and seeing people enjoy themselves. Let's hope the individual involved is big enough to realise their error and submit themselves to your forgiveness. Few are, and remain spiritually stunted as a result. But let's hope they are reading this and are one of the few.

More importantly, best of luck with your operation! Have had a hernia op or two. A temporary bit of discomfort for a lot better body condition. Best wishes for yours and your continued love of music.

I mean goodness, if you're having a big cookout with folks each bringing various dishes to share... a ladle is just likely to turn up missing.

But then, I manage to read further. If someone really DID snag a couple of cartridges - I just can't even fathom it.

Sure hope somehow they just turn up where you haven't looked (as IF you haven't looked EVERYWHERE!) Assuming they don't - I again further hope someone (inconceivably) left with them in error & returns them post haste!

As to your health issues, that's a whole 'nuther matter & not audio related - but I'll sure say that I wish you the best!

Sorry to hear, that's just so wrong.

You're one of the wittiest, funniest posters on this board with an obvious heart of gold. I always look forward to reading your posts. If the cartridges (and other items) were stolen, I hope the culprit ends up in prison. I would guess they're stealing other things too.

Sorry to hear about your stuff "walking" - I recently lost my little Nikon digital camera and I looked hi and lo around the house for it several times.........then last week I was cleaning up the closet in my man-cave and there it was, sitting on a shelf. I charged it up and the last picture I had taken with it was in April of this year. So stuff goes missing and turns up.....hope that's the case with at least some of your stuff.

As for your upcoming operation, I learned a long time ago that a positive attitude really helps - put yourself in the hands of your capable doctors and let them do their magic. You'll make it thru just fine.

Hopefully they'll show up in a drawer you haven't looked in., posted on August 29, 2012 at 09:32:41

But way more importantly, I sincerely hope your health improves.

... Mikee,

This is one really saddening report of grossly-abused hospitality...

But, as has been noted elsewhere, the truly disturbing news is your impending return to the world of nurses and doctors coupled with the brief report on the "state of functionality" of the Mikee organs.

Please be assured that there will be some South African fingers crossed for the duration and some soft words aimed upstairs to plead for a safe deliverance from the knife and a successful procedure against the depredations of the evil hernia. (I believe that the word "hernia" implies a gender - something which explains its effects on one's abilities to perform certain tasks. A "hisnia" would be a lot less evil...)

In the meantime, look after yourself as best you can and only molest those nurses when you feel well enough to follow-through in the event that any overtures are positively received. (Be careful to keep these under your hat to avoid retribution from "she who must be obeyed" in the event that you are "found out" - a successful hernia op followed by further hospitalisation for genital mutilation will tend to get you talked about...)

All the best old son!

Nicely said, and I hereby plagiarize your post, replacing only "South Africa" with "Boston"! nt, posted on August 29, 2012 at 11:39:53

Hi Mike! I also hope that the items turn up soon. I don't have many guests
and my daughter doesn't care about my stuff... Recently I thought I had lost a Tori Amos album so ordered another while I still could. Of course the original jumped out at me soon after.
Take care of yourself, I always enjoy reading your posts!

This one is not one of them

sorry for the loss(es) and for the bad news regarding your health (just had a quadruple bypass myself not that long ago).

As i was reading your original post after seeing the one where you remembered trading in one of the supposedly missing carts, i was thinking that the ladle and scopp probably were inadvertently thrown away by someone not paying attention while trying to help clean up.

that said - hope y9ou find the rest of the stuff and come out the other end healthy and happy.

Ribfest is such an amazing event and so many enjoy the music and the chance to rub elbows with other music nuts.

More important is that with your health you do not deserve this extra burden of theft and questioning your trust for those that drop by the listening rooms. I hope the items are safely returned.

Here is my prayer that your upcoming surgery goes smoothly.

You know they do surgery in China without anethesia? I wonder if you can find an Americal hospital that offers accupuncture vs toxins?

God bless you Mike.

And also Optical Rectalitis.

I had posted this after 2-3 weeks of trying to find the cartridge, and 2 days later realized I'd used it in trade for a new Dyna 20X2L.

Luckily, the friends I've made here, know that I have Shi* for Brains and a shi**y outlook on life.

I wish I could back things up a few days and erase all of this, but I can't, so, God willing there WILL be a Ribfest 2013.

Since 13 is my lucky number,* it should be a superb shindig. Should I inform the planning commission you will be in attendance? I hope so!
