I was riding on the highway yesterday. I wear a 1/2 helmet and my bike has a full-size windscreen. A bug impacted my riding glasses, exploded right on the lens. The impact was felt and heard, and had they been regular sunglasses instead of thick safety lenses it might have been very painful. Wear proper eyewear people.

Good advice; need stout eyeball coverings.
And riding in Alaska, I've been hit by bugs that would dismount riders without screens.

Keep the rubber down.

I love to ride and like no windscreen or a very small one. Bumble bees are hell too. Gravel as mentioned can be deadly. I'm pretty much doing full face helmets these days with the rare no helmet ride (w/good eye wear)in states that allow it. Good full face helmets have great venting these days.

Hit me right in my face shield at about 100mph.Also once had a fellow rider next to me hit a red tail hawk, he crashed, bike totaled.

and I saw this weird black cloud just ahead of me and before I could react I was into it. It was a cluster of yellow jackets and my helmet filled with them as did my ears and nose and mouth and the collar of my jacket and shirt and up the sleeves of my jacket and I slammed to a stop and literally dropped the bike and began to do what must have looked like St. Vitus on meth trying to get the helmet off and all the time I was getting stung and god it was a nightmare.

That might've convinced me to give up two wheels.

That sucks! So what BMW do you have? I've had both airheads and oilheads. The K12R has been calling me for sometime now.........

Heavily modified by both Roger Selby in Redwood City, Ca as well as at the BMW factory in Germany. It was this "smoke" paint job like this pic, only available in 1975.
A great ride for one or two people. I no longer ride. I have a strong dislike for yellow jackets as well!!

I've been bitten by ONE, once. The rest of them hammered themselves into the back door (sliding glass). Took couple months to stop hurting.

A whole cloud of them, shudder!!!!

Neighbours had a whole nest in their ceiling!

Their nests have to begin again each year, but here from about Sydney and North they can 'over-winter' and get really huge.

When they're in a house that's heated further South where Winter is colder, they can keep on for more than two years.

I had a 76 R90/6 before going Oilhead in 1995.
