And when I become King (doesn't matter whether it is King of Palmdale, King of California or whatever), my first official act will be to do away with DST. Somehow or another, humans managed to survive tens of thousands of years without having to screw with the clocks twice a year. Yep, we'd do really stupid things when it got dark earlier, like change our schedules. This change our schedules and our clocks is pure BS!

I'm not sure what the reason is now but originally it was so kids could help their farmer dads in the fields before heading to school. Now it just screws people that end up getting home from work at dark and barely see the light of day all winter, except weekends and holidays.

Down here in the Sunny South, I heard the reason was so that kids would not have to wait for a school bus in the dark. When one has to go to school an hour away, one must catch the 6:30 special. We have gone back to neighborhood schools for some crazy reason. :0) Will

Think about it. The sun comes up at, say, 6am under standard time, then it's 7 am DST. How does that give the kids time to help before going to school?

I do remember reading that they decided to change the time in the fall so there would be more daylight in the morning. Regardless, leave the time the same all year round.

The time change is in Spring, we're now on standard time, posted on November 5, 2009 at 10:56:43

The reasons were to save energy consumption from home lighting, reduce traffic accidents (there are more people out shopping in the evening, in addition to regular commuters), encourage more shopping and provide more daylight hours for recreation. Farmers and ranchers don't like it.

It was always standard time on his ranch. If he had company (ie, an audience) and there was something on tv that he wanted to see (like Hee Haw), he'd turn on the tv an hour early and use the time to recite a litany of government screwups. I didn't know any country folk who had anything positive to say about the government. Daylight savings time had to be invented by a cityslicker for cityslickers.

Just for kicks and giggles, I tried that last year., posted on November 5, 2009 at 11:30:03

I decided I wouldn't change my clocks, and that I would merely make my schedule work. It was a miserable failure. The biggest pain in the butt? TV listings. ;~)
