Good advice for many inmates here.

I wrote an obit. in Listener when he died, told a story about a song he sang to his beautiful assistant as she was re-stringing a guitar.

"I'm gonna give you the Golden Globe awards for those golden globes of yours..."

Artie edited it somewhat to appease those who might have been offended. But them's were the words he sang, folks!

He came to the Frederick Maryland Fair every year. He put on a superb show and I was really bummed when he died...A blow to (as he called it) old-timey music.

There is no such thing as too many records.
There is just too little room for them!

I saw him at the Philly Folk fest, and was probably in the crowd somewhere up the hill when that clip was filmed. I also saw him at a little bar with an old dance hall in the back in the Reading area out by Blue Marsh Lake...The Brownsville Hotel. If I recall, it was John and Roy Huskey, Jr. (sadly both are gone now). The hall was set up with tables as you could get food from the kitchen and pitchers of beer. He did two sets. The first was a little laid back and he kept to the stage and the audience was rather quiet. Near the beginning of the second set, he said, "Who wants to dance? Then get these tables out of hear!" It was like the parting of the Red Sea. There was a loud WOOSH! and there suddenly appeared a clear area in the middle of the hall, and the party was on! With a wireless pick up on his fiddle he spent some time on the floor as well.

Posted on Music Lane about Gamble Rogers and found Mike Cross and John Hartford videos on YouTube from the Philly Folk Festival. I saw Gamble out there as well. Maybe 50 people at most in the audience. He never played on the stage, but would come around to your table and play between stories. Saw him twice there. Saw Mike Cross at least twice there too. He packed the place. David Bromberg, Leon Redbone, and Jonathan Edwards did too. Sadly the place went under. The owner knew how to run the shows on weekends, but didn't know much about running a bar/restaurant the rest of the week. I saw Ellen McIlwaine play a solo show there because he didn't have enough money to pay her back-up band (at least that was the story going around). Did a damn good job of it too, all things considered.

My records are out in the front yard and I was just getting ready to spray them with the hose! Clean records do sound better, you know. Oh well, I'll use the dishwasher.

That method isn't as unlikely as one would think, Bruce., posted on November 1, 2009 at 13:52:02

About a week or so ago there was someone over on VA praising his record cleaning technique over all others, the main tool used for this method being the high pressure sprayer from his kitchen sink.....

Actually, that is pretty scary. I hope that was some sort of November Fool's Day joke or something. ;~)

Said Inmate was (and most likely still is) absolutely adamant that his method is "The Best", and had it been posted on some other forum I would not hesitate to supply a link. However, since it's "one of our own" (AA, not Centralien) I should probably say no more.

I have to admit, several decades ago when a Zerostat was cutting edge, I washed many an LP in the kitchen sink using a mild detergent and warm water. One had to be careful and use a clean sponge so as not to scratch the vinyl :0) I am sure my friends talked about me behind my back. They still shake there heads at me and I make an effort not to bring up politics, religion, and hifi during any cocktail conversations. Will

And perhaps I should back-up a bit. It wasn't so much the fact that he used the sprayer from the kitchen sink (which, personally, I think is "odd"), but rather that he so vehemently stated and re-stated that this was "best" method, and that those of us with RCMs were wasting our time. If I remember correctly he called RCM owners "fools" or "foolish" (I'm too lazy to find the thread), and said over, and over, and over again that his method produces "the best" results.

Several people tried reasoning with him ("in your system", etc, etc), but he didn't want to go there.

So, is it odd? To myself and several others on VA, yes, but if it works for him, "more power to him". However, making the claims he did, and in the manner in which he made them.....I can find no better word than "sad".

In fact, he and the Michigan guy have been known to spar on occasion...

I've been trading emails with ol' BB the least few days, and you're right. He's been awfully mute on the whole Favre/Vikings thing. Granted, I haven't asked, either....

Next email I'll jump on him!

Who...when....where? Sorry, but I don't remember... Now that GUY
from Chi-CAH-go..that is another matter. :-)

Re:Favre/Vikings thing
I am quietly optimistic at this point. As I have told my 2 sons...
we will see what happens. If they were to FINALLY win a SB, I
will morph out of my cocoon into a full fledged butterfly and
spread joy throughout the world! I might even get a tattoo
exclaiming my joy!

Now see what you did!

Note: I can't F'N spell today....

I just did. We'll get him stirred up. He also received an new tube preamp, so I need to plan a road trip to Raleigh and check out his upgraded rig. I will bring along my Cat Stevens and James Taylor albums for auditioning. :0) Will

And his method is almost exactly how I clean my records. But to swagger in and declare it "the best" without microscopic photographic proof was sadly egotistical.

I'm glad you read the thread and have a "feel" for it. It wasn't what he did, but the egotistical and obstinate way in which he did it, that made him look so.......sad.

See my reply to "double28" above for additional clarification.
