Well, you bugged us to do it and we did it! John Tracy provided a Touch (much as he became the first customer for the original complete SE Phono Preamp Kit) for our mutilation and we were successful today at "tapping" into the internal I2S buss digital audio data buss and connecting a RAKK dac I2S Interface "send" board so that it will port audio data to the I2S Interface "receive" board in a RAKK dac implemented with one. The wiring required better eyes than mine, so Trent Weaver (who eschewed my inspection microscope) did the wiring and did it well. I used an SD card as a source and it sounded very good considering that all that was on the SD card were 320kbps MP3 files (for shame!). The most difficult part was honestly the removal of the small Phillips head screws that hold the boards in. You need a very good screwdriver to do this!

I've attached a close-up of the attachment points. The wire used was 26ga wire wrap wire.

Wow!

Nice. Is that a K&K I2S interface board at the top of the picture?

Anand.

Just got through listening to David Crosby's "If I Could Only Remember my Name..." album recorded at 24/96 and it was truly fine! There were numerous subtleties clearly present at this resolution that the CD only hints at. Also listened to some internet radio, which was really straightforward with the simple interface. The Touch is a nicely engineered product in its own right and there is certainly great sonic and ease-of-use promise in the RAKK dac - Logitech Touch combo. Maybe this old disc-dog will be dragged into the 21st century yet. Of course, I needed significant help from one of my stepsons (22 years old) to make this all happen...

Kevin,

How about a critical sound quality comparison between the Touch's I2S output and SPDIF output at 24/96 into the RAKK dac?

Jim
