Basic Step up kit set up for ortofon kontrapunkt B
I have the basic step up kit with the LL9206 transformers. I just acquired a ortofon kontrapunkt B cartridge. I use a George Wright Wpp100 phono stage. The output Voltage on the ortofon is .47mv and the recommended load impedance is 50-100ohms. Do I need to add a resistor to optimize? If this sounds like I know what I doing, please don't think that is the case. I have absolutely no idea what I am doing - but Im having fun doing it!
Thanks

Josh

The LL9206 can be a 1:10 step up transformer. (Termination Alternative C)

That would give you 4.7mv....good.

The impedance ratio is the square of the turns (voltage) ratio.

So, with a impedance ratio of 1:100, the 47K input resistance of your phono preamp will look like 470 ohms to the cartridge. Too high.

If you parallel the 47K input resistance with a 13K resistor that will give 10183 ohms so the cartridge will see 101.83 ohms.

If you parallel the 47k input resistance with a 6K resistor that will give 5320 ohms so the cartridge will see 53.2 ohms.

Not sure (actually I am quite sure) that I do not understand what you are suggesting that I do. Are you saying that I do need a resister to alter the load? If so which one?

Thanks
