I have a couple of these tweeeters that I bought on eBay a couple of years ago. I want to use them in some high efficiancy (I think) speakers that I plan to build to work with some low power (SET, Gainclone) kit amps with which I want to start experimenting (O.K., playiing).

I saw them in an ad stating they're from PS4As. I think I recall also seeing others in an ad stating they were from PS8s, but I wouldn't bet my dogs on it (likr those dogs a lot).

They're the ones with those big, flush-mount, cast meta frames, painted silver, and are about 2.5' x 4.5' (very approximate).

It would be good to know the nominal impedance and frequency range. In a pinch, I can estimate the former by taking a static reading from a multimeter, but I'd rather have the factory stated specs for both to figure a crossover.

Oh, yeah, and efficiancy, so Ill know whether I'm totally barking up the wrong tree using them for speakers to use with SET amps.

If anyone has experiance in using these DIY, I'd love to hear about it--xover and driver pairing successes and failures, etc.

Thanks in advance for any info, tips, warnings, "naah-na-na-na-naah-nah, you shouldn't have bought those dogs", whatever.

So what you read on your DMM will pretty much be what they are through out their whole range.

But strictly speaking, they show an Fs peak like a cone transducer and a small amount of inductive rise. These are dramatically suppressed relative to how they'd be in a cone system though, and it's accurate that you can treat them as a resistive value.

Bass is supposed to sound big. 6.5" is not a woofer size.

I know the big ones they sell through PE are 4 ohm. Most likely your are too. The big ones are rated at 92db/w. The smaller ones are probably less, making a SET amp usable only for small scale stuff. If you want the coloration of a SET amp, I would recommend bi-amping, using a gainclone for bass, and the SET for the high end. That would give you more dynamic range, among other benefits.

"If you want the coloration of a SET amp"

I'm interested in what type of "coloration" you prefer to listen to?
