Hello I picked up a RCA multi-cell from the 1930s was told by seller it was sitting on a Ubangi when he picked it up. I would luv to build a matching bass cabinet. I have looked about for cabinet plans or a used Shearer or Ubangi cabinet but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

I've owned both the Olson bins (Shearer) and the Ubangi.

The multicell was probably on the Olson bin, the Ubangi usually had radial horns.

The plans I have seen on the web have not been correct.

Bruce Edgar used to have a pair of Olson bins, he might have drawn up plans.

Michael Christ has plans for the Ubangi, incuding a pattern for the horn ribs with the correct curvature.

Is the Shearer the old double-ended "W" bin that used 2-15"?

If so, there is a drawing with internal dimensions in Audio Cyclopedia by Howard Tremaine.

I could send you a scan of the page if that would help.

Its a W bin seen set up for 1 or 2- 15in. A scan might help I have plans for W-Bins just want to get as close to original as possible.

Mine was a similar tar-filled 18-cell with dual drivers used with two Olson bins.

The Ubangi had a 90 and a 60 radial with dual drivers on a 'Y' into another 'Y' to the horns. A tweeter was added.

These are what I am familiar with. We used to carry these monsters around as part of a rock and roll PA. That is two of them stacked. It looks like it may be the same horn design as the Shearer horns, just rotated 90 degrees.

All I need is outside dimensions of original RCA Shearer W bin., posted on May 15, 2012 at 11:27:12

Thank you. I have W-Bin plans similar to this. This ones close to the shearer only difference I note at this time is angle around driver. Wish I could get the outside dimensions from one, with the info I have I can come real close to original shearer- Olson bin.

Thank you for taking time to help me out. I will post pics when finished. Have most all parts I need. Wish I could source original drivers at this time but will build it anyway and if I get original RCAs will replace the drivers I'm using.
