I have a pair of ev 15trxb speakers in ev boxes i recently got a set of t25 drivers and 8hd horns to add . The original ev stuff said to use the x8 crossovers . I am new to the crossover game but wanted to build my own . My real question is the 15trxb has the tweeter mounted on the speaker and a built in crossover system if i hook up the x8 crossover wouldnt that remove the freq for the tweeter ? I cant find any info on how they actually hooked up the crossover . The 15trx has a seprate crossover for the tweeter then the woffer and mid horn have a crossover That makes since to me but with the 15trxb having a built in cross i am confused . can i cross over the mid horn only ? and if so how would i do it ? I will try to put the schematic on here that i have for the original x8 . Thanks AL

I believe the X8 is probably what's already inside the 15trxb, no?

I think the x36 is built in to the speaker and the x8 is for the mid range horn and woofer if you used the model with a separate hf tweeter and crossover. So can i just make a cross over for the mid range horn `or will that mess up the phase or any thing els . remember i am stupid when it comes to cross overs so please speak slow . Thanks AL

Both the X8 and X36 are two-way crossovers, I don't think you'd use either for anything but a two-way system. The X336 is a three-way crossover that possibly could be designed for the use you are describing, but to use it you would definitely remove any other crossover (ie the X36 or whatever's in there).

The original ev stuff was sold as kits and you could add on later and for the 15trxb its said if i wanted to ad the t25s 8hb horn it also needed the x8 crossover along with it this is where all of my confusion is from . It dosnt make sense to me . AL

unless the idea is to not use the coaxial tweeter at all. If you had a better resolution scan of the schematics, you could use the values to reverse-engineer it to figure out what is going on in those two crossovers in case there is some way that using them together makes for the appropriate 3-way. I can't really make out any of the values from the picture above, and I'll defer to those that are more knowledgeable that might have a better answer.

Take a look at the 15TRXB Enginering Data Sheet (EDS) PDF which you can download from the EV website. The last page shows how to wire the TRXB up for the X8 and X36 crossovers using a midrange horn. Note that there is a "jumper" that you must disconnect between the plus and minus terminals on the speaker to do this. Don't forget that the operational driver impedence (8 or 16 Ohms) has to match the crossover being used, and EV made both versions. If you are rolling your own crossovers, make sure you are working from the correct schematic for your driver. Mixing an 8 Ohm driver with a 16 Ohm crossover (for instance) will guatantee inaccurate results.

Hope this helps.
