I recentlly use Win 10 to run Foobar2000 and Jriver driving an Amanero USB dac to listen to hi-res files.

I got serious pops and clicks with anything higher than 96KHz and all DSD files.

After searching computer audiophile forum, some one else have the same problem and I followed the feedback and follow up by configurating windows optimised for audio. See the link.

So far it works very well. I guess many of you knew this already. But in case you have similar problem, these configurations surely help.

I found disabling Virus protection and WiFi help a lot.

The problem came back. It seems that those anti-virus software (Mcafee) is not properly turned off or some other processes came back to life. And these caused disruption to the USB output and thus clicks and pops reappeared.

I then setup another PC with Windows 7 and install the latest Foobar and drivers. The problem was nearly all gone but still there are pops and clicks occasionally.

After referencing other measures for tuning Windows, I first turn off all real-time-scan and firwall of the Mcafee anti-virus permanently. I then turned off start up processes from running and then restart the machine. (this effectively turned off all networking, wifi, all the background processes ...etc and have the machine only running the audio program and driver).

This can be done by pressing the Windows button and 'R' and then type 'msconfig' . Under the 'Service' tab, click 'disable all' and click 'apply' and then 'ok'.

Now, I have a near vanilla machine running only the core of the Windows. And then the music appears fully in its best form. There is no more pops and clicks.

I will post again if these measures failed. If not, consider this fixed.
