jbersin	Foobar2000- v. 0.9.6.9 (freeware) plays DXD (352/384)wav files, too.

I looked at the 2L site, being familiar with their work on SACD. 3 hours download time for the DSD64 and 8 hours download time for the DXD version discouraged me from trying the downloads. I've only got a DSL line at home here in the "country."

More like one hour for me. However, with some experience in the workings of Internet protocols, I was aware of the tricks. The problem is the long round trip time from Norway. You can only download 64 KB every round trip time between computers using a single TCP stream. Get yourself a download manager, such as http://www.leechget.net/. The maximum download rate I could get with a normal browser download was 64 KBps until I ran Leechget and set it for 10 parallel downloads. Then I got about ten times that performance, limited only by my DSL speed.

That said, because of my DAC limitations I couldn't play the DXD file until I had downsampled it to 96 Khz using SoundForge, at which point it sounded the same as the 96 24 FLAC version that was also offered on the site.

I live in rural Vermont, but am fortunate to have a good ISP.

You can open the DXD files in iZotope RX. If you check them on the spectrum analyzer you can see the rising noise at about 50kHz. DAD sustains the use of this high sampling rate because it allows the use of gentler anti-aliasing filters which will induce less ringing in the AD process, thus better impulse response.

Probably the best way of recording would be in DSD128 which wouldn't require any filtering and then convert to PCM in the DAW with Weiss Saracon or something like that and choose your filters.

Conceptually a DXD file is 32bit floating point samples at 8fs per channel block interleaved. You can download their manual from their site (the Document Download section) Chapter 16 of the Pyramix Virtual Studio 6.0 User's Manual talks about file formats...

But on the other hand when I downloaded the DXD files from 2l I found that they had a .wav extension and that I could load and play them with Adobe Audition... So it appears that any software prepared for the data at a high enough rate can understand the DXD downloads from http://www.2l.no/hires/index.html

FWIW I can also play the DSD files with the plugin mentioned...

(Edited here: Oops, I should have read your message more carefully, the file is a simple .zip file (at least my WinZip 11 and WinRar 3.71 both can read them just fine) which contains a .wav file. Perhaps you got a download error. If it helps the MD5 hash of 2L38SACD_tr1_stereo_DXD.zip is 38A56C9E1EBEFFC070911E0C14A39A08.)

Teresa	Is there a DSD plug-in for MAC? Hopefully through iTunes as iTunes can do 24 Bit 96kHz. Thanks in advance. What I do with other hi-rez files is save them to iTunes 24/96 and then transfer them to DVD using iDVD so I play them on my Yamaha universal. Music is Love, Teresa

The plug-in allows for playback of DSD audio through realtime conversion to PCM. DSD	fmak, I've copied the files into my Korg MR-1,a hdd recorder which can record and play dsd files(there's a DSD converter inside).It works very well!But i'm unable to play correctly the DXD/wave file on my PC.
