I bought both of these closed phones and am very happy and excited to have both headphones. The W1000X has made me forget that painful experience with Denon.(still waiting for the check) and the AKG 550 may be the best headphone in AKG lineup/ The 550 outclassed the T70 and is exceptional for a 300.00 phone with tremendous sound stage and great isolation with bass. The AT step it up and is a thing of beauty. Great bass and no recessed mids with transparency and a smooth presentation. I am done for a while. In the last three years 23 headphones and 14 amps and pretty much have heard almost everything in the marketplace. I am done to my final 8 and 4 amps and 4 sources. its been fun and have enjoyed the experience now its back to the music.

325i and PS500.

The only thing I really liked about the D7000 was the sub-bass. Does the AT-W1000X do that? Obviously I like bright phones. What's the comparo between the Grados and the AT and also the AKG.

TIA

It good to hear from the voice of experience.

Been thinking about some closed headphones. Your comments appreciated.

Thanks.

the w1000x has great deep bass extension and is not recessed. The mid range is outstanding. It also built in Japan and built well with a 2 yr warranty and less money too and very satisfied with them.
