"We're not going to be lying on our death bed thinking, I wish I'd sent a few more emails and done a few more spreadsheets," he jokes. "But you might well think: I wish I'd written that novel or painted that picture. Or learned to play that piece of Bach on the piano…"

I had an email exchange with Mr. Rhode's management and they say that sudden demand has outstripped supply but that the book will be back on sale ASAP.

Yay! I can finally play the piano I have sitting in my living room. It's actually one of my analog playback devices, but unlike a turntable a player piano lets you make your own music as well!

Is that a perversion?

Amazon has the picture of the book by Rhodes, but when you put it in the cart it becomes a book by Hamburg.

I remember my sister taking piano lessons, thinking to myself, that's for girls, boys play drums or guitars. Now as I watch 2 of my grandsons play the piano beautifully, I cringe at how ridiculous my thinking was. I'm gonna blame it on the age/era (late 50's early 60's) and what was typical of male thinking then. I also thought that only girls took typing in high school. That thought also changed when I was confronted with a keyboard & computer at work. Anyway, I'm now of the opinion that learning to play ANYTHING can enrich your life & others around you. I regret not having learned how to play some type of instrument, so to right that wrong, I've learned how to play all kinds of instruments really well on my stereo system. I'm amazed at how well I can do that & how great I sound while doing it.
Everyone thinks I'm strange except my friends deep inside the earth

Instead of mastering the piano in 6 weeks, an even more challenging endeavor is to master the violin in 6 weeks.

Most people I've talked to who play both say that piano is harder! ;-), posted on January 11, 2017 at 13:20:45

Of course, it could all depend on how high a level of mastery you're talking about. As one of my kids reminds me from time to time, you can take any instrument, even the kazoo, as far as you want!

When I was 5 or 6 and home from school for some reason, I taught myself to play the first several pages of Moonlight Sonata my older sister happened to have on the piano. She had been taking lessons for 4 or 5 years and was not pleased at the head pats I received. We haven't spoke much since.

It's all memory and coordination which you either have or you don't. Trombone, OTOH, and Strings require skill and a keen (but not Viola) ear.

I attended music class in elementary school, the music teacher summoned me to the piano, and told me to find a "G"..... I sat at the piano, totally confused..... I did not see a "G" in "BALDWIN".......
