 I mean, it sounds great on the Hi Fi and all, but there is only so much variety and artistry one can appreciate after a lifetime of listening to throat singing.

I even started to listening to only acapella recordings, then even dabbled in spoken word performances, but then I ran across a Henry Rollins spoken word piece (sounded great on the Hi Fi, by the way) telling me I should quit listening only to spoken word.

How about y'all? When you need to rekindle your love of spoken word or Mongolian throat singing, where in the canon do you go to re-establish your connection?

Live Mongolian throat singing shows?

Listening only to the masters?

 I figure your probably kidding...but there are lotsa folks on the asylum that keep saying "you have to experience LIVE music"

In August I'm camping with about 500 of my close friends at an annual gathering west of Corvallis Oregon.
One of my campmates is a Tuvan throat singing instructor, and there will be plenty of throatsingers of all skill levels there.
Workshops and classes if desired...

Also lots and lots of didgeridoo, some flutes, bangos, violins, djembe, tabla, a couple of fujara and probably an accordian or 2...ukelele and most every other kind of accoustic instrument on the planet...
3 days of music from dawn till midnight...musicians holding spontaneous accoustic jams all day and concerts at night...

yeah, I know what live music sounds like :)
It sounds like the Indidjinus Gathering.
And it never fails to rekindle my mojo ;)

 Me too. I think the problem is that Mongolian throat singing suffers from too many notes.

 is a Tuvan throat singer who frequently tours and records with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. If you want to be blown away by what the human voice can do, check out "Jingle All the Way." If you'd rather just hear Tuvan throat singing incorporated in a musically satisfying way, try the tune "A Moment So Close" from "Outbound", a tune that also features rapped lyrics, Shawn Colvin, Jon Anderson and classical Indian elements.

BTW, I get and enjoy your joke. But I'm quite serious.

 I got a chance to see Bela Fleck, Flecktones and the Tuvan throat singers live for a Christmas special in 2010. I enjoyed the show very much despite my extremely low tolerance for Christmas music. The Tuvan singers also got a chance to perform a few of their traditional numbers also.

 Try some Sainkho although not exactly like male TS she's nice. Also a sampler such as "Deep in the Heart of Tuva" could give you some ideas of new throat singers you haven't heard. Tuva, not Mongolia has my favorite throat singers. I love how you hear the fusion of Asian and Russian dialect in her voice.

 Tanya is a Canadian Inuit (Eskimo) throat singer who has performed with Kronos Quartet and Bjork.

An amazing singer, who makes throat singing extremely sexy.

When you cant enjoy KOB on any rather large level. Dont know if that genre is for you.... Just my opinion...

Theres been far stranger posts here however.

Hell I can go from DJ Shadow Entroducing to Mahalia Jackson. I just love most music... Love finding new stuff Ive never heard before in general. Even if I find I dont like it. At least I tried it.
