I was listening to Vivaldi's "La Fida Ninfa", and the female vocalists (especially the soprano) sounded insanely erotic to me. Am I the only one who hears it that way?

...usually only Bolero.

But we were at a terrific Sonoma resort that made us feel like we were in Italy and they played Italian opera music outside.

Somewhat erotic.

I learned I missed Veronique Gens and Susan Manoff on piano recently at Wigmore Hall.

an evidently exceeding rare event... never mind I live in America.. I;d have shelled out a couple of thousand dollars to jet over and catch that... I could have died when I discovered I'd missed it.. been sick some recently also had a grade II ankle sprain so was recovering and just as I'm feeling myself again I see this.

Currrriously I just obtained these two CD's in the last coupke of days as well....

Where you playing it at the right speed?

That piece does have a rather orgasmic sounding vocal line/climax, if that's what you mean.

I also like Grace Slick, Alison Krauss, Christy Baron, Claire Martin, Kelly Flint, Patricia Barber and Rebecca Pidgeon to name a few. There are lots of great female vocalists in Rock, Folk, Jazz and World genres. I just don't like classical/opera singers, never have, even when my music collection was 50% classical. I also can't take musicals and broadway style of singing.

I agree. Margo Timmins vocals are definitely appealing. I've seen the band probably a couple dozen times over the decades, and it's just as enjoyable live as on recordings.

Another one I find very moving in that sultry kind of way is Karin Berquist of "Over The Rhine".

See ya. Dave

since on the topic of sultry vox.

Enough sultry between those two to make me sweat.

If you want to hear an incredible "classical/opera" singer in an emotional (non-english) "folk" song setting
check out this CD:

If getting shivers resolving through my body from spine to feet to arms and getting goosebumps raised on my arms is erotic, then almost every disc I own is a source of erotica.

The difference with music is that:

a) It doesn't get me into trouble
b) My wife doesn't mind
c) I don't feel quilty after
d) Performance is up to the stereo - not me

Ha ha.

Cheers,
Presto

Yes, it is precisely this singer that's emitting intense erotic vibes. Like, I'm almost imagining hearing a woman doing such vocalizations while she climaxes in bed (pardon my English;)

Yeah, those vibrations emanate through that piece.

She sounds very... studied.

Addendum:

Not being familiar with the piece of music, I checked out a few videos on Youtube and this one "fit" your description, as such.

Funny that it is the same version you had heard!

I have to add her to my list of Women I Love. Funny story, I made a mix cd a while back titled "Women I Love" - lots of redheads and other fav's, including Margo. My son comes over one day, sees the cd and reads the title and setlist. Immediately turns to my wife and says "Hey mom, you didn't make the list". I suffered greatly for many days........

It's risky putting a question like that before the philistines on this forum. Most of them think Snoop Dog's "music" is fine art! eg. knucklehead ;-)

Seriously though, I will give it a listen and report back! I never considered Vivaldi "erotic," mainly because he was a monk! But maybe he had erotic fantasies :-))

Particularly as the commonly accepted image of a soprano consists of a rather large wench with huge lungs (selected more for vocal prowess than pulchritude).

Having said that, there are the occasional exceptions that tend to prove the rule...

Once such is probably not a true classical vocalist, but her looks make any issues of her "classicity" somewhat redundant (Katherine Jenkins):

Katherine Jenkins murders Sarak McLaughlan's 'Angel' but still manages to look gorgeous...

Having got past the gratuitous blonde bimbo bit, there is one soprano whose voice makes me stop everything and just listen - totally entranced: Sylvia Greenberg. Her rendition of "In Trutina" from Carmina Burana blows away every other version I've heard:

Sylvia Greenberg's 'In Trutina'

Whether any of the above can be categorised as "erotic" is another matter... (Ms Jenkins' allure lies purely in her looks IMHO)

:-)

"Insanely erotic"? I have a feeling that you might like Gesualdo's madrigals. "Madrigals Book 3" with Delitiae Musicae on the Naxos label might be a good place to start. Then, "Quinto libro dei madrigali" with The Consort of Musicke on Decca Classics. Also, "Gesualdo, Prince of Madrigalists" on Sony Classics. Go man, go!
