I have a massive 3-piece wall unit. Most of the inmates systems I have seen have installed their components on small shelving-type units such as you would pickup at Ikea or Target. Turntables, like my TD 124, are usually mounted in a heavy plinth, and then on top or close to the top, in those same units mentioned above.

Perhaps I have missed something, but what about using a massive wall unit like I have? I have a piece of oak, (1-1/4" thick) that I have installed my TD 124 in and takes the same place as a shelf for my TD 124, and it works great with no feedback. Of course, I do have to mention that I have a concrete floor, and the 3-piece wall unit is sitting on top of a thick piece of wood, to prevent leaning on the carpet. I also have to mention WAF. Although I am now divorced, neithr my ex nor my girlfriend have ever complained about my arrangement.

What do you have?

I think worrying about the component stand might be about 2" beside the point.

The one speaker is on the floor with nothing above it. I don't know about the other speaker. Therefore I can see no reason why they couldn't be on stands. Even some cinder blocks you find on the street.

As a matter of first principles, if your speakers are going to have to be located like that then there is little reason to worry about something an order of magnitude more subtle, such as the rack for the electronics.

My speakers ARE on stands. Why don't you ask next time?

Are the stands four inches high?

And the missed point about first principles is still lost.

that the photo might be misleading, to assume something without even asking, is asking for trouble, is it not? Geez, I'm not some newbie at this, which is apparently what you took me for, or perhaps clueless.

No offense, but that has to be the hardest-to-use turntable installation I've ever seen. Why not switch places between the Thorens and that Sansui TU-717?

I am 6'1", and the turntable is exactly the right height for me. The Sansui TU-717 is obviously higher but acceptable. in addition, the space the Sansui is in is a little too high to see the turntable, as well I would have to cut out the floor of the compartment, no shelve there.
