lots of posts individually but not found someone who compared them in their system. i want a blacker background. my area is not terrible power, but my sound application unit helped. would you share your experience.

Might want to consider simply using a quality isolation transformer with large enough capacity not to "choke" system.
Often times I think simplest is best.
That and a dedicated line well grounded.
I use the Shindo iso and really like what it does and wasn't too expensive when I got it.
Have used fancy power conditioners in the past with mixed results.
Changes, but not always for the better.
Have come to believe that the idea that a stereo system must have some exotic and expensive "power conditioning" system to sound its best or work properly is one of the many canards of the high end.I think that it just isn't so.A truly good stereo should sound so with ordinary ac straight from a 50 cent outlet.

so which do you have experience with and recommend, posted on November 8, 2009 at 14:51:49

isolation transformers not familiar with

Like I said, I like the Shindo. I am not a technically oriented guy,but what I gather is that it is a simple isolation transformer scheme which filters the ac and isolates the components plugged into it from other things on the line(s).I guess it isolates the components from each other, too.I just know for sure that it is small (relatively) and heavy;it has 6 outlets;and sounds good.I don't hear a large difference with it in the system, but do hear an improvement. It seems to make my system a little warmer, fuller, more music like and less electronic.

There are other transformers out there that single-ended guys told me about and recommended, but I don't remember the names or where to get them.

A good quality dedicated line terminating in a solid outlet(premium or audiophile) might do enough for you to be happy and save some bucks.I have had a couple done for me by electricians friendly to the fancies of audio nuts like me, and it never cost me more than a couple of hundred dollars(plus outlet).

I just think audio money is better spent on better preamps, amps or speakers and just having a solid, sound, basic ac set up.

But that is just me.

These things all cost more than my loudspeakers, and preamp altogether.

Given the extensive power regulation in all of my electronics, this seems a bit over the top.

I use a older Panamax which performs some line noise filtering, but mainly as a surge suppressor.

$4kbucks for a dedicated line? That's obscene.

Something like a Xantrex Prosine 3 running off a bank of Trojan T104's?

The Elgar will filter the 5th harmonic plus all other noise. It can handle up to 28 amps @117V continuous! It makes mechanical noise, so you place it at your breaker box and have it run the lines your stereo/theatre room is on.

Its not an audiophile product- its aimed at industrial/commercial applications. But its the best out there by leaps and bounds hands down over anything made for high end!!

That how I really feel about it too :)

demo in the Nordost room and again during a setup & tuning seminar. All those listening to the demo thought it made a clear improvement to the sound in terms of dynamics and definitely a blacker background. The QX4 has a bypass switch on the back allowing pass through. When the bypass is activated the sound field tends to collapse toward the center and get smaller - very impressive. I installed a QX4 in my system between the dedicated wall outlet and PS Audio Quintet power distribution module. I haven't compared the Nordost Thor vs. my PS Audio Quintet but since the Thor uses the Quantum technology as well so I am tempted to try one.

I've used PLC's from Monster... AudioPrism...MIT...PS Audio...Audience...
Richard Gray...Acoustic Revive...Shunyata and Running Springs...

ALL were bested by the Bybee..by a WIDE and clearly audible margin.

for $5-10000 it better be better :) nt, posted on November 4, 2009 at 07:50:06

I don't trust those reviewer types myself.

I'm happy enough with my old PS Audio P600 thanks, but if anyone wants to send me one over I'll gladly give it a listen.
