I certainly have no 'proof' that this IS the bed built for Stevie Wonder, but I was at CH LA at the time when this bed was fabricated, circa 1982. CH stated it was for Stevie and that is was a gift from Paul. So I don't believe this is a joke or that the bed and gift never existed.

It strikes me as highly unlikely that someone put this 'thing' together and made up some strange story. Only a handful of people actually knew of the gift and the existence of the bed, until know. I only know about the bed and the story because I just happened to be at CH at the time.

Usually on something likes this I would be right there with you. But in this case I think it is the real deal.

The seller couldn't even see fit to make the damn bed. Amazing. He should have advertised with...."hey, Stevie just slept in it!"

The ungainly visual, acoustic and industrial design of a thing like that really shows how over-rated the gift giver is as an "artist."

Thanks for posting it, though. Most interesting.

I doubt the visuals had any impact on a blind man. . ., posted on October 31, 2009 at 13:41:00

The design, if it is as advertised, may have had more of a functional use for its owner than for a sighted person. As an artist, SW may not be to your taste but his songs are still sung.

Perhaps the speakers' positions are adjustable, but as shown it doesn't even make sense from an audio perspective, which you could assume would be of interest to the recipient.

I also find your assumption that a blind person could not evaluate good industrial design by employing other senses, such as touch or having it described verbally, to be uncertain.

OTOH, perhaps its ghastliness is why McCartney gave it away as a gift rather than keeping it for himself...this would give lie to my criticism of the gift giver.

He was referring to McCartney "as the gift giver"... (nt)., posted on October 31, 2009 at 14:31:43
