There is a deeper underpinning....... The art of making music at its most-basic of levels is no longer appreciated. Everything is instant, convenient, prefab...... The decline of real pianos, just like that of real singers, is an artifact of this lost appreciation. As is the lost interest for past music greats like Beethoven and Louis Armstrong.

Sad, but a sign of thew times...., posted on October 30, 2009 at 16:35:09

We've got a 1906 Knabe Grand (incredible tone), and I wondered if they were still around.

Yup, well, sort of....in Korea.

"Samick’s pianos are sold under the Samick name as well as under a variety of brand names, including Kohler & Campbell, Pramberger, Sohmer, Remington, and Knabe"

also Chickering.

We have a 1906 Mason & Hamlin AA. It was rebuilt by Faust-Harrison recently, and positively sings now.

Sad. The store in my neighborhood where I bought my Kawaii just shut down.

Families used to buy a piano and make payments on it. It was a long term investment. Send the kids in for lessons.

Those days are over.

Yes, those days really are over; pianos now regularly show up on the Craigslist For Sale - Free listings.

Susan Tomes of the Florestan trio. Terrific pianist.
