Probably good news. I'm not really into financial theory, but the folks at MSNBC and The Book Channel (part of C-Span) say that big consolidations haven't worked nearly as well as hoped. I think it has something to do with confused management (too many cooks syndrome), "unfocused" marketing goals and just the sheer size of these enormous organizations makes them unwieldy to operate effectively.

I think if Warner went back to just making music, things would improve for CD and dvd-audio. Faster title introductions (less management crap for decisions to ooze through), and more receptive to changing consumer desires.

Would be good if WB can resist being taken over or merged into a competitor. Quite frankly I think a lot more truly independant labels would be good for music in general.

Not a bad thing. Warner Music was sold to Seven Arts (Movies) in 1965..., posted on January 31, 2003 at 14:45:19

Four years later, Seven Arts was taken over by Kinney Corp. (Undertakers - really!) who reunited Warner Bros. and Warner Music again as "Warner Communications" and also acquired Elektra. And so on...
