Hi Guys,

Just the other day one of my LadyDay amps starts to make a crackling noise when played at higher volume levels. I'm running it with D3A driver tubes and Full Music 300B Mesh tubes. The 300B's are in my amps since 2003.
I've exchanged the driver tubes from one channel to the other but seems this is not the problem. I've not yet changed the 300B's but was wondering if someone knows what the problem might be. 300B tube starting to fail?

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
Saffier Brull

I had the same a while back. The coupling capacitor was leaking a significant amount of DC onto the 300B grid. I'm not saying this is the issue you have but it's worth checking and it is likely cause.

Hi Bas, Using RCA redbase 5R4GY, from the 50's. These are the only ones not yet switched. Going to try to swap them.

Thanks,
Saffier

If so it can burn the cathode grid or even worst.
