I have not played SACDs (nor vinyl) since getting my Bifrost a few months ago since I had no desire to hear another source, but decided to compare finally.
I used DSOTM SACD to confirm that I prefer the Bifrost to the Oppo analog outs.
I used "The Great Gig in the Sky" track. I used the main L & R outs of the multichannel from Oppo since I never really heard a difference compared to the stereo outs. I had Mapleshade Excalibur plus' on the Oppo and Morrow MA 4s on the Schiit; the Mapleshades are about as good as my Morrows.
I compared CD layer on Schiit to the stereo SACD layer from Oppo.
I preferred the sound from the Bifrost.

Thanks for the comparison - and for your frankness that you were in no way trying to be objective: ". . . to confirm that I prefer the Bifrost to the Oppo analog outs."

And, you did prefer the Bifrost!

I may have messed up the order of my statements. But at this point, subjective is objective for my needs. As opposed to a long time ago, now I just note how I feel when listening rather than picking out very specific aspects of the sound and hope that that translates to listening satisfaction. No more wasting time on hyper-critical listening and then more time trying to translate that into English. That has its place, but not for me, now.

My comment was a bit hyper-critical. Thanks for your gracious response.

I do appreciate it, as I have an Oppo 83, and am thinking of getting a BiFrost, but have been reluctant to give up SACD capability. Your post addresses that concern.

I never understood the raves about the Oppo-83 for music. Its a $500 Blu-ray player that also does CDs and SACD. I have one, and while it is a fantastic Blu-ray (and DVD) player, Its not very good with music.

It's the Oppo BDP-95 that is generally considered to have the great analog outs. Earlier Oppos were good but not spectacular. By the way, I love my Bifrost too. Sounds better every day.

That's cool - The Bifrost is a great DAC. Not surprising the OPPO 83 isn't quite as good - probably the analog output stage or power supply is my guess - but it is from a couple of years ago, so it could also just be the relentless improvement in digital technology?

I found the Bifrost punches well above its weight - and even gives my Ayre C-5xeMP a run for its money (though in the end I feel the Ayre sounds better - more detail and extension).
