How my Ayre C-5xeMP can play in CD mode a CD that is both, CD/SACD, since the unit takes you to the SACD format by default?
By the way, Mr. Charles Hansen, I buy this Ayre from your wonderful dealer in Deerfield Beach, FL: Audio Center, in my recent visit to FL.
Now is in his break-in period, with mixed music (not metallica) in repeat for two weeks, in the middle of the rain forest: San Jose, Costa Rica. But the unit sound great from the beginning, a little harsh, maybe because it's a new unit.

Two weeks on repeat should be enough to break it in most of the way. If it is sounding harsh, I would look at other things in your system. I would start with both cables (interconnect and power), but especially RF filtering. Do you have any components that have switching power supplies? (Remember that all video displays have switching power supplies.) Any Class-D amplifiers? Those are the things I would look at first.

As far as the CD layer, may I ask a question? If you have a hybrid SACD, the SACD layer will *always* sound better than the CD layer. So why would you want to get worse sound from your disc?

And the freedom to compare...

There are a lot of people feeling the sound of the CD is better, and a few that SACD is the best. My personal taste is SACD sound is 'cleaner', since you can play music at higher volume, meaning less noise, this is true if the SACD player is extraordinary, like Mr. Charles Hansen Ayre C-5xeMP, and you have the look to find really ones recordings...

The little harsh in mine probably comes from the power cord, and/or the class-D amplifier in the Martin Logan Sub's., that I have to isolate better.

That would be my prime suspect. In that situation I would just use one of our filters, but that is a fairly expensive proposition. I have just made a posting in the Tweaker's Asylum asking for recommendations of low-cost power line filters. You may want to monitor that thread.

Wow, that is all very cloak and dagger. On the EMM XDS1 I'm evaluating, all you do is push a button on the remote ;) In any case, it's good that the option exists for those so inclined and it gives customers an excuse to speak with Michael, which is, ime, always a pleasure.
