I am a little confused. I see that some of the Cambridge players upsample to 24-bit, 384 kHz , Music Hall upsamples to 24-bit, 192 kHz.

So with one of these players you would not need to buy a DAC in order to get the upsampled sound?

OK, let me rephrase this. If I have a CD player with a built in upsampling DAC that performs at the same rate as say the V-dac or the Cambridge DAC magic, no DAC is really needed. Although it seem in some posts people are doing this. IE the Azur 740C from Cambridge has absolutley no need for the DAC magic.

Let me see if I can try to answer what you are not asking too clearly.., posted on November 3, 2009 at 14:08:49

Cd players already have DACs, but also have digital outputs that bypass the internal DACs, so you can hook up a external DAC if you think it would be better sounding than your internal DAC.

That way you would be using your CD player as a transport only to read the CD. You can also buy just a Transport for use with seperate DACs.
There is no end to it, it all depends on how much tweaking you like to do, as the more seperates you have the more cables you need, more shelfs, more tubes, etc, etc,

I hope that helps.

Allan.

? They already have Dacs? Or else they wouldn't be CD players Nt, posted on November 1, 2009 at 09:02:48

You would if you didn't want the 'up-sampled' sound provided by either of the players you mention.

Isn't that what they say? (NT), posted on October 31, 2009 at 17:56:04
