It is particularly funny that a company shilling assembly-line food would be making fun of the lack of the lack of "choice" in someone else's consumer culture.

All this time I thought the ad was taking a jab its main competitor for not offering a choice of condiments on its burgers.

I don't think they had a chain of restaurants in as you put it, "someone else's consumer culture", at that time.
