And now for something completely different:

TAS December 2009.

Yes, a huge advertising supplement. Stop whining people. If you want your Raging Bull you have take your Meet the Fockers with it. No ad revenue. No magazine.

Letters Section:

Geez! Talk about hysterical. John Goodman and his rant about JV's Khartago review makes me look like Mr. Happy Go Lucky. And we wonder why Audiophiles are seen as grumpy lame dudes with anger management problems. All over a $795 amplifier. Sheesh.

Robert Harley, please update your picture...its got to be 15 years old. If you do, I'll let slide that you filled half the last issue with excerpts from your book, which I actually like by the way.

Also, do you no longer list your reference system?

Is it me or are they on a review merry go round with Arcam, Nagra, Magico, NAD, Simaudio, and McIntosh?

Steven Stone's Computer Audio Part 2 feature. Don't go ballistic on the guy again, it's impossible to cover everything and I think he did the best he could.

Peace Out. Off to delve into my new Amazon Bert Jansch stash,

What was said about the Khartago amps. I have read a lot of terrific press about this amp. Granted I don't expect much from Solid State amplifiers but I would rather spend $795 or whatever and get a 20 year warranty than spend piles on a Krell that will burn my house down :-)

And being Solid State - they probably sound the same - in a blind test anyway.

We had the discipline for a few groundbreaking, ignoring days there.

I'm like a rectal exam, not necessarily pleasant, but necessary.

Lighten up big boy.

BTW, the Belles Soloist 5 is an incredible ss amp for around 1K. David Belles is an amazing designer and audio engineer.

Basically, Valin loved the amp. He compared it to his current borrowed reference, the Soluution stuff from Switzerland that cost 115K combined.

The letter writer was "outraged" by this comparison and thought Valin was
being sarcastic and actually trying to belittle the amp. It was actually a rave review.

Talk about needing a life. This Mr. Goodman (letter writer) is the poster boy for the grumpy, anti social, hair trigger temper audiophile.

Well if you have heard the Solution stuff then you might understand why he could like this little $795 amp...Solution stuff is overpriced dreck sonically.

TAS, while they do make some good points, also seems to have an agenda...I am glad that JV appreciated a comparitively low priced amp...I also don't have any concern that he won't make a knee jerk congrats to ARC over the REF 5...he seems to be focused on cheerleading new things/companies that he likes...even if RH seems to have other judgements...and all new things are raves....love his rah rah over Magico "nano"....while I wear brook brothers shirts have have used that material for the past 7-8 years...such material is just another ingredient in producing what a designer seeks in cone material...so I hope JV evaluates all things on an equal playing field....but my sense is that TAS is very political....after all why ignore wavelength and ayre in recent DAC stuff but push their buddies products such as the ARC DAC 7....but of course this is a waste of time

At least I don't argue with people who agree with me.

Please don't take my last post seriously.

Seriously though I have read a number of very nice things about the Khartago from reviewers and dealers selling competing products.

Time to make the donuts and post more worthless one liners all in a haphazard string.

And the TAS supplement's appearance in the same timeframe as the Sphile one has been duly noted here already.
