the new issue of TAS has a number of interesting editorial oversights, omissions, etc, but the one that really caight my eye was SS's claim that "most iTunes sales are in MP3 format, but more and more the retailer is offering 16/44 CD full CD res recordings for download."

really? i'm pretty sure all music is offered in aac format, 256k, and no higher.

did i miss the announcement at macworld?

There is a big-bucks speaker featured prominently on the cover of the Buyer's Guide and also in at least two other photos in the issue. But, not a mention of the speaker in any of their recommended products. Were the photos placed just to toss a bone to someone who has been placing large advertisements lately in TAS or was this a production error?

I noticed that too and found it rather odd.

...MP3 and AAC?

256k is relatively recent and only from Apple, IIRC.

amazon offers 256k MP3s, apple's codec is AAC, Advanced Audio Codec, which is more efficient than MP3. most listeners report AAC sounds better than MP3 at an equivalent bit rate.
