 I recently bought a set of Furutech FP-201R Rhodium spades. Now I am curious how the Gold version (FP-201G) might sound in comparison. Has anyone compared Gold and Rhodium?

 I prefer Rhodium over Gold. The Rhodium AC plugs, Spades, and RCA connectors over gold, They have a more detailed sound without being harsh. More Depth and wider soundstage. They can have a slightly forward sound in some systems but I haven't experienced that in mine.

 Gold sounds ....golden. It seems to roll off the highs too much, although you might that a better fit in YOUR system.

 I am also wondering whether having gold spades at one end and rhodium at the other end might give the best of both (or the worst of each). I ordered some Furutech Gold spades as well as some Xhadow silver, and I plan to try them all using the same type of wire. So I guess I will have my own answer in a few weeks.

and some time in the future may upgrade to the Furutech FP-201R Rhodium spades...

I use Neotech NES-3001 Speaker cables and made my own Jumpers out of a 18" section of Neotech NES-3001 cable that I purchased from Sonic Craft...

Since I did all this right after I first purchased the Neotech NES-3001 Speaker cables it is hard to remember the sonic change I experienced...

I have been doing several Rhodium connector upgrades and I do love the added transparency, low level detail and soundstage dimensionality...

 I can't comment on speaker cable.On power cords ,I noticed this:"gold" had a more than lovely tonality and warmth to it.It was very appealing.Once I heard the rhodium,I realized what I had to give up to gain those two qualities.
The rhodium was better balanced,better top-end.The other sounded somewhat smeared.But,oh that midbass.
Its' only when you do back-to-back comparisons that these details make themselves evident.
I suppose that I could have been happy either way.It usually comes down to personal preference,equipment and room.

 Very interesting Tom. I believe I am hearing the same qualities in the Rhodium spades as you described. The midrange and treble are really nice--fast, detailed, and fully extended---but the bass is slightly lean although tight and detailed. I would like a bit more warmth but I don't want to give up any of the treble speed and extension to get it. By the way, the spades in my case are on jumper cables for my Spendor speakers, not on the speaker cables themselves.

Wondering if a larger wire gauge might have a positive effect here?

 I doubt it. The jumper wires use a 12g wire (silver-coated stranded copper) which is not lean sounding by itself (no spades).

 I couldn't say for sure which sounds better, but I think a rule of thumb would be to go with the same material your binding posts are plated with.
